William Henry Penhaligon, a Cornish native essence expert, settled in London around 1868 and opened a barber shop on elegant Jermyn Street, near the renowned Turkish Baths. A man of great talent and initiative, he creates, in the back of the shop, a laboratory where, among stills and kettles, he dedicates himself to inventing and experimenting original mixtures of essences and ointments that from 1870 he began to offer to the customers of his salon and to the visitors of the Turkish Bath. Inspired by the latter, in 1872 he created his first eau de toilette, “The Hammam Bouquet”. This is followed by many others, including "Blenheim Bouquet" which since 1902 is still today the most famous of Penhaligon's fragrances. Today as then, for its olfactory compositions, the English brand uses natural substances and extraction methods that guarantee great purity, stability and persistence. The Court of England has for many years granted patronage to Penhaligon's House as the preferred supplier of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh and HRH Prince Charles of Wales. All this, in addition to allowing Penhaligon's to boast the Windsor coats of arms, is a further confirmation of the excellent quality of the products and the extreme refinement of the packaging. Each bottle is packaged by hand, with great care, and the cute little bow around the neck represents an unmistakable note of class that distinguishes the bottles of Penhaligon 's from all the others.
